MHA is an All-Volunteer Organization, or “AVO” in nonprofit parlance. We have a seven-member Board of Directors that works with a group of fantastic Officers, Coordinators and other volunteers to help MHA fulfill its mission. This page provides a brief overview of how it all works.
Board of Directors: Our seven Directors are all volunteers, and they’re all elected by the members of MHA. Directors serve a three-year term, and may serve two consecutive terms. The Directors’ terms of office are staggered so that only some of the terms expire each year.
Officers: MHA has a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Officers are elected annually by vote of the Board of Directors. Typically, members of MHA’s Board of Directors also serve as its Officers.
Coordinators: Much of the work done by MHA is done by volunteers who serve as Coordinators for a specific job. Some of the Coordinators also serve as Officers and members of the Board of Directors, while others do not. Coordinators are in charge of everything from keeping track of membership to publishing our quarterly newsletter, The Grapevine, and just about everything else MHA does! For descriptions of our Coordinator positions, go to the Be a Coordinator page.
Volunteers: Of course, the Board of Directors, Officers, and Coordinators can’t do everything. They rely heavily on help from MHA volunteers. These wonderful people pitch in when and where help is needed. Without them, MHA simply wouldn’t exist. If you have any time to spare to help further the cause of homeschooling in Minnesota, please go to our Volunteers Needed! section. There may be current openings for someone with your skills. It’s very satisfying work, and MHA would appreciate your help!
