Does it ever feel as though your work is never done? It can certainly seem that way, both for families and for all-volunteer organizations! There are always ways to help out at MHA. Here’s a list of volunteer positions we’d love to have you fill:
Legislative Watch Coordinator (assist other coordinators):
- Our Legislative Watch Coordinators review Minnesota House and Senate bills that may affect homeschoolers. See our Be A Coordinator page for further information.
Press Release Coordinator:
- Do you enjoy sending out press releases and creating advertisements? We need a volunteer who can publicize the events MHA has going on to a variety of media - libraries, newspapers, websites, support groups, radio, wherever deemed appropriate.
State Fair Coordinator:
- Everyone loves volunteering at the MHA Booth located at the MN State Fair! We need a coordinator to contact previous volunteers (as they get preferential selection of the volunteer slots), then help fill in the remaining time slots. The previous State Fair Volunteer Coordinator is ready to assist you. See our Be A Coordinator page for further information.
State Fair Volunteer:
- State Fair Volunteers staff our booth where they talk to fairgoers about MHA and homeschooling. We provide a free ticket to the MN State Fair to members of MHA who staff a four hour slot at the MHA Booth in the Education Building. If you are new to homeschooling, we will pair you up with an experienced homeschooler!
Member Handbook Volunteer:
- Our Member Handbook Volunteer will bring a fresh perspective to our member handbook.
MHA Wiki Volunteer:
- Our MHA Wiki Volunteer keeps the wiki sections of the MHA website updated.
Regional Representatives:
- If you live in outstate Minnesota and are an active homeschooler, we need you! We are looking for people to serve as liaisons between your part of the state and the rest of MHA. It’s no secret that most of the state’s population is concentrated in the Twin Cities, but it’s also clear that many, many folks are homeschooling outside the metro area. We’re building a network of Regional Representatives to help increase our presence outside the Twin Cities. This helps MHA increase its membership, and helps non-metro homeschoolers connect with the support our group can offer. We’ve recently begun traveling to Duluth for the Northland CORE (Community Opportunities and Resources for home Educators) conference, and that’s worked out great. We’d love to do more in the outstate area, so let us know if you can help.
Reporters for The Grapevine:
- Here’s your chance to put on your writer’s hat and tell us what your family, support group, cooperative, or other group or organization does to enhance your homeschooling experience.
Assistance with our Annual Conference:
- Let us know if you can help with any of our logistical needs at the Conference. Examples include registration, staffing the MHA booth in the exhibitor area, addressing exhibitor needs on Conference day, helping distribute box lunches, etc.
Are you able to fill any of these positions? If so, please e-mail our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@homeschoolers.org. Thank you!
